We reinforced the handle and tang, we used a thicker blade and a wider tang, because the tang (where the handle meets the blade) has a large contact area, we used glue to fix it, you don't have to worry about it separating at all, it's stronger. A few disadvantages, the sheath opening may loosen after time, Tsuba may not be able to withstand larger forces, and its overall shape tends to be more vertical than curved.
